For the ultimate luxury wedding in the capital it has to be Claridges at the heart of stylish Mayfair.
This is the 5 start art deco jewel in London’s crown, it has an unmistakable style that was polished in the 1920’s and 1930’s. During the late 1920s London’s bright young things were partying as if their lives depended upon it, and Claridge’s needed to modernise.
The famous art deco pioneer Basil Lonides redesigned the restaurant and bedroom suites. Oswald Milne designed a completely new style of main entrance and finished it off with a beautiful jazz moderne mirrored foyer to completed the look.
The success of the art deco redesign inspired a much larger project. In the early 1930s Milne added an extension to the east side of Claridge’s. With its simple cubic outline, the tall brick block stands in both contrast and harmony with the main hotel building. In 1996, Claridge’s embarked on a major design restoration.
Inspired by archive photographs from the 1930s, New York-based designer Thierry Despont made over the Foyer area in modern art deco style. The art deco style is perfect if you are planning a stylish 1930’s vintage wedding
