Iceland Pre-wedding Shoot

WOW, what an amazing few days in Iceland for a pre-wedding shoot with Christie and Greg. We visited some spectacular scenery and took some stunning photos of them both but more than that after 5 days travelling, eating, photographing and sharing laughs with them, we left Iceland with two new friends!

Christie and Greg were so pleased with their photos that they have booked us for another shoot this time a pre-wedding shoot in Antelope Canyon!

Here are a few of my favourite photos from our Iceland pre-wedding photoshoot 2018 and we are looking forward to going back in the summer of 2019.

 Pre-wedding photography in Iceland 

 

Iceland is an incredible place for a pre-wedding or engagement shoot or even a wedding or elopement.

Iceland is a small island in the North Atlantic, only a couple of hours flying time for us from Gatwick. Icelandic people are peaceful and keen to uphold their beliefs of freedom and equality, These days one of the larger commercial business enterprises in Iceland is data centres!

With a huge natural resource of renewable power and a cool climate to operate data centres efficiently you can see why companies from around the world are rushing to build new data centres in Iceland and I’m sure even some of our digital photos could even be stored on these huge data centres. It would be fun to think that having been too Iceland to take these incredible photos that they could end up on a hard drive in a server somewhere in Iceland.

With a small population, it’s no surprise that in the busy summer months that they are outnumbered by tourists 3 to 1. Winter months are fantastic for pre-wedding shoots if couples can cope with the colder temperatures and the limited daylight, the upside is you will usually have some amazing snowy backdrops and mountains and you will be

As we all know, Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. With its pristine landscapes and ancient folklore, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this Nordic land. The Breiðamerkursandur ice Diamond beach is by Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland. It’s a black-sand beach that is littered with blue ice diamonds, they are the icebergs from the lagoon that are washed out to sea and polished by the waves as they are washed up on the shore of the beach. you are only able to access the famous ice caves which are only open during the colder winter months. If you are fortunate enough to witness the northern lights they make the most dramatic backdrop to a photo shoot with you as the foreground subjects under the majestical natural light show.

 

 

 

Summer pre-wedding photography in Iceland

Summer brings a change in the temperate and lots more daylight, in the midsummer you only have a couple of hours of darkness so much more time to take photos and its easier to travel between locations as your not driving in the dark on ice roads, the downside is there are many more tourists around at this time of year so we have to choose or locations and times carefully so it keeps the background looking uncluttered and less distracting.

Nikon Z7 photoshoot in Iceland

Having only just started to shoot with the Nikon mirrorless range this was the first chance I had to use it in extreme weather conditions. I am glad to say it performed faultlessly and the image quality from the 45.7 mp BSI sensor was amazing! with so much detail being held in both the shadows and the highlights you can really see how well it copes with the dynamic range needed on the blackened beach when working on the images in Lightroom.

Having come from a Nikon D850 all of the controls fell exactly where I would have expected them and with the EFV showing you exactly what you are going to capture with a live view its great to know you don’t have to check the image on the back of the camera to ensure the correct exposure. I would thoroughly recommend both the Nikon Z7 and Z6 for stills and video.
