Top 5 tips for better wedding photography

  1. The typical brides dress can be a tricky subject for your camera to expose correctly for and its important to capture all of the detail in the dress without loosing the highlights so that you cannot recover them. Modern DSLR and CSC sensors are very good if you underexpose a little and then bring the exposure back up in the RAW during post production. This way you can ensure you keep all the fine detail in the photo of the dress that is so important to the bride.wedding-photographers-yorkshire-castle-howard-wedding
  2. When taking photos outside on sunny days during the summer when the sun is overhead its always best if you can find some open shade as you can use the beautiful soft light that is bouncing around to flatter your subject and also not have a huge difference in the scene between shadow and highlight and too much contrast that is not flattering for your bride and groom.open shade wedding photograph in the woods
  3. If you can’t find open shade then place your subjects with their back to the sun and overexpose using exposure compensation by a couple of stops or use some fill in flash off camera to balance the daylight with your flash giving a nice even exposure and filling the dark shadows.goodwood-house-wedding-classic-car
  4. Look for interesting light and locations that will help differentiate your photography and push your creativity. dappled light on a wall or hard shafts of light through church windows like the photo below make your photos stand to from the crowd and help you to think differently about how your camera sees the light compared to the human eye.how to take better wedding photographs
  5. Posing is important! although you are documenting the wedding day with candid or reportage style of wedding photography there are still photographs that are important to capture for future generations where you have a greater input as a photographer. Take a look at some of the great portrait artists and wedding photographers to see how they setup groups or couples posing together. Take note of hand and feet positions, how they shape their bodies and hold their heads, all of this goes to make a photograph with finesse that will stand the test of time for years to come.hedsor-house-weddings-by-barrie-downie-photography
