We had a fantastic time with Yuefasi & Lian during their Pre wedding photoshoot London recently — one of those days where everything seemed to fall into place, from the weather to the locations to the relaxed, joyful energy the two of them brought to every frame.
 
We met them at the hotel they were staying at in central London, and the pre wedding photography package they chose included hair and makeup by one of the brilliant team at Gemma Sutton, which was, as ever, absolutely fabulous. Having a professional makeup artist on hand at the start of the day makes such a difference — it gives the couple confidence in front of the camera and ensures the bride looks completely camera-ready for those important close-up portraits. Starting at the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal College of Music, we made the most of the grand Victorian architecture as a backdrop for our first set of photographs. The terracotta and red brick of the Royal Albert Hall is a wonderful colour palette to shoot against, and Yuefasi looked stunning in her gown set against the curve of the building. We then walked over the road to the Albert Memorial which, with its gilded statue, intricate stonework and elevated steps, is a fantastic backdrop for pre wedding photos and one of my favourite spots in this part of Kensington.

We then hailed a black cab — itself a fun little moment to photograph — and headed over to Regent Street to capture some pre wedding photos looking back towards the Hotel Cafe Royal. There’s something quintessentially London about that view: the sweep of the Regency facades, the iconic red double decker buses passing through the frame, the black cabs weaving in and out of traffic, and the couple posed on the steps leading up from the London Underground. It’s a scene that says London like almost no other, and a must for any couple wanting that timeless, classic feel to their images.
 

 

Stylish pre wedding in London

 
People are very used to seeing couples on pre wedding shoots these days — over the last 15 years they have become enormously popular in London, particularly with couples travelling from China, Hong Kong, Singapore and other parts of the world to capture their love story against the backdrop of one of the most photogenic cities on earth. The British capital offers an extraordinary mix of architecture, parkland, riverside views and historic landmarks, all within a relatively compact area, which makes it possible to cover a remarkable variety of looks in a single day.

After a quick stop for a coffee to warm up — an essential part of any London shoot, no matter the season — we then headed over to St. James’s Park and walked around the lake before finding some lovely spots for their pre wedding photos. St. James’s is one of the most underrated locations in central London for couples photography; the willows draping over the water, the views towards Horse Guards Parade and the London Eye, and the resident pelicans and wildfowl all add character and softness that contrasts beautifully with the grandeur of the surrounding monuments. The sun was shining and it was a really lovely day, perfect for photos and giving us beautifully warm, natural light to work with.

We then headed back to the hotel for a quick change of outfit and were ready for their evening pre wedding photography shoot in Knightsbridge. Outfit changes are something I always encourage on a full-day pre wedding shoot — they give the final gallery a real sense of variety and make it feel like multiple sessions rather than just one. We started out with some photographs in front of Harrods, the green awnings and ornate facade lit up beautifully as the evening drew in, before moving on to Brompton Oratory, an absolutely incredible church with one of the most beautiful interiors of any place of worship in London. The marble columns, soaring ceilings and golden detailing create an atmosphere of real elegance and gravitas that translates wonderfully to camera.

Buckingham Palace photography

 
We then finished up at Green Park opposite Buckingham Palace and the couple posed for some pre wedding photos in front of one of London’s most famous landmarks. Buckingham Palace is, of course, one of the most photographed buildings in the world, and capturing the couple in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial with the Palace as a backdrop gives you that instantly recognisable London image that family and friends back home will love. We worked with the late afternoon light, using the wide approach of The Mall and the symmetry of the Palace gates to create a real sense of scale and grandeur in the photographs.

The whole experience was fantastic, the weather was on our side and we got some great shots of the happy couple. We’re really looking forward to more pre wedding shoots this year — every couple brings something different and every shoot is a chance to see London through fresh eyes.

For the final part of our pre wedding photography tour of London we made our way down to the river, starting on the south side of Westminster Bridge looking back towards Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. The neo-gothic detail of the Palace of Westminster against the evening sky is genuinely spectacular, and Big Ben framed behind a couple is one of those images that never goes out of style. From there we moved along the Thames to the Millennium Bridge, with St Paul’s Cathedral rising in the background, before finishing at sunset at Tower Bridge — arguably the single most iconic London landmark and a truly unbeatable way to close a shoot. The bascules, the painted ironwork, and the Thames glowing with the last of the day’s light combined to create some of the most beautiful images of the entire day.

The photos from the day turned out beautifully and we are sure Yuefasi & Lian will treasure them for many years to come.
