Wedding photography at The Langham London

Weddings at The Langham sit in a particular sweet spot: properly grand, properly central, and properly easy for guests to get to. The hotel sits at the top of Regent Street, two minutes from Oxford Circus, looking straight down across the West End. It’s been there since 1865 — Europe’s first Grand Hotel — and as a London wedding venue it remains one of my favourites.

Most Langham weddings use one of three rooms. The Grand Ballroom is the headline space — mirrored walls, chandeliers, original 19th-century detail, seats up to 350 for the breakfast, and it’s one of the best-lit ballrooms in London for photography. The Courtyard Garden is the rare bit of outdoor space in the middle of the West End, ideal for drinks reception, summer ceremonies or post-ceremony portraits, with brick and ivy walls that work as a backdrop in any season. The smaller suites work well for more intimate weddings of around 60 to 100 — panelled, warm, and generally easier to light than the Ballroom itself.

The flow of the building works for photography. Ceremony in the Ballroom, drinks in the Courtyard, breakfast back in the Ballroom, dancing in the same room as it transitions for the evening — no twenty-minute room-flips that eat into the day. The staff are genuinely good at weddings too; they’ve done this enough that I don’t need to chase anyone, which keeps the day calmer for everyone, including me.

I’m a recommended wedding photographer at The Langham London. After years of weddings here I know the events team, the in-house planners, and how the running order tends to play out on a Langham day. That gets factored into the planning — when I send you a suggested timeline, it’s based on what actually works in this specific building, not a generic Saturday template.

I shoot quietly. I’m not the photographer barking instructions across the room or stopping the day for a forty-minute group-shot list. The plan is simple — cover the day as it actually happens, pull the two of you away for fifteen or twenty minutes of portraits when the light is right, and the rest of the time you’ll forget I’m there.

Bridal prep usually happens in one of the bridal suites upstairs. The corner rooms have the kind of natural light that makes prep photographs do half the work for you. From there it’s down to the Ballroom for the ceremony — I work with two cameras, one wide and one long, stay out of the aisle, and try to disappear.

After the ceremony there’s drinks in the Courtyard, where I’ll catch the natural reactions and the candid stuff, then twenty minutes of portraits between courses. The Palm Court, the Courtyard, the marble staircase, or a quick walk into Cavendish Square if the weather’s behaving — each gives a different feel and we can grab a couple of variations without leaving the building for long. Group shots are kept tight: send me a list of family combinations beforehand and we’ll knock them out in twenty minutes flat.

Once it’s dark, the Ballroom comes into its own. The chandeliers and mirrors do most of the work for me, and the dance floor in that room is a brilliant set to shoot — I’ve taken some of my favourite London wedding pictures there during first dances and parties.

If you’re planning a wedding at The Langham, drop me a line with your date. Happy to meet you at the hotel for coffee at the Palm Court, talk through your day, and bring along a couple of recent Langham albums so you can see how I work.
