Pennyhill Park Wedding Photography

I’ve been photographing weddings at Pennyhill Park for years, and it’s still one of my favourite Surrey venues. The drive in through the gates, the way the ivy-clad façade catches afternoon light, the 123 acres of grounds tucked behind the hotel — there’s a reason couples from London keep choosing it.

If you’re planning your wedding here, this page is for you. I’ve put together what I’ve learned from shooting at Pennyhill — the Manor House, the Tithe Barn, the gardens, the spa-side accommodation — and how I work, so the day feels like yours rather than a photoshoot wedged into it.

The venue, briefly

Pennyhill is a 19th-century manor house turned five-star hotel, set in 123 acres of Surrey parkland near Bagshot. It sits about 45 minutes from central London, half an hour from Heathrow, and has its own helipad if guests are coming in by air. Couples typically use the Manor House for the ceremony, the Tithe Barn for the breakfast, and the gardens (or in winter, the panelled rooms) for portraits.

How I shoot at Pennyhill

Quietly. I’m not the photographer barking instructions across the lawn or stopping the day for a forty-minute group-shot list. The plan is simple — cover the day as it actually happens, pull you away for fifteen or twenty minutes of portraits when the light is right, and the rest of the time you’ll forget I’m there.

Because I know the estate well, I can get you to the right places at the right times: the steps in front of the Manor House at golden hour, the rose garden behind the Tithe Barn, the avenue of trees on the south side, the Themis spa terrace at dusk if you’re staying the evening. None of that needs you to walk far or change shoes, which matters more on a wedding day than it sounds like it does.

Pennyhill Park Location: Getting There

Pennyhill is one of the easiest luxury wedding venues for guests to reach. It’s just off the M3 at Junction 3, ten minutes from Bagshot and Camberley railway stations, and a short hop from Heathrow and Gatwick. There’s parking on site for around 200 cars.

For guests coming from London, it’s about 45 minutes by car or 50 minutes by train (Bagshot has direct services into Waterloo). For international guests, Heathrow is half an hour away and Gatwick is 50 minutes — close enough that nobody has to factor in a hotel near the airport on either side of the trip.

Through the seasons

Spring — the orchard and gardens come into flower; soft, even light works beautifully against the ivy-covered façade.

Summer — long evenings, drinks on the lawn, golden hour in the south gardens around 8pm.

Autumn — the trees turn amber against the redbrick; one of my favourite times of year here.

Winter — log fires, the Manor House lit up at dusk, the gardens dusted with frost. Underrated.

Planning notes

  • The Tithe Barn seats up to 200 for the breakfast and works equally well for a forty-guest wedding as for a full-house celebration.
  • Bridal prep usually happens in one of the suites at the Themis spa or in the Manor House itself.
  • The Pennyhill events team — I’ve worked with them long enough to know who’s who — runs a tight day, which makes everyone’s job easier.
  • Pennyhill Park, London Road, Bagshot, Surrey, GU19 5EU.

FIVE-STAR ESTATE WEDDINGS

Photographing Your Pennyhill Park Wedding

A few practical notes if you’re planning your day at Pennyhill — written from years of actually shooting weddings here, not from a template.

Where to put portraits in your timeline

Pennyhill is south-facing on the gardens side, which means golden-hour portraits work brilliantly between about 6:30pm and sunset in summer, and 3:30pm in winter. If your timeline is tight, the lawn outside the Manor House and the steps at the front are both ten seconds from the Tithe Barn — we don’t need long.

Group shots, kept short

Send me a list of the family combinations beforehand and we’ll knock them out in twenty minutes flat, on the gravel in front of the Manor or under the cedar on the lawn depending on weather. No mass-call-out chaos.

Bridal prep

The suites at Themis have decent natural light from the spa-side windows. If you’re getting ready in one of the Manor House rooms, those are smaller but the windows face east — best for early morning prep shots.

If it rains

Pennyhill is a gift in bad weather. The Drawing Room, the Hatchett library and the Tithe Barn itself all photograph beautifully indoors — we don’t need the gardens to make it work.

Beyond the venue

If you want something different, Bagshot Park is a stone’s throw away and Windsor Great Park is twenty minutes — both have given me great portrait locations for couples who want to step off-site for half an hour.

Bride and Groom Portraits at Pennyhill Park

Most couples want a handful of portraits of just the two of them, and Pennyhill makes that easy. My approach is simple: find the light, find a quiet corner, done in fifteen or twenty minutes — no awkward poses, no half-hour standing around.

The spots I keep coming back to are the steps under the front porch (great in any weather), the cedar on the south lawn (best at golden hour), the rose garden behind the Tithe Barn (summer only), and the long brick wall on the spa side (works in any light). Each gives a completely different look, so we can grab a couple of variations without leaving a 200m radius of the reception.

The result is a small set of portraits that feel like you, on a day that felt like yours — not a magazine shoot, not a Pinterest reconstruction. Just the two of you, on the day, photographed properly.

Absolutely wonderful wedding photographer. Very attentive, and gave us exactly the look we wanted. Highly recommended.
