Notley Abbey wedding

Notley Abbey is a fanatics wedding venue the 15th Century Abbey has a rich history including recent history when In 1944 Sir Laurence Oliver and Vivien Leigh moved in. They hosted many celebrity parties and guests included Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller, Bette Davis, Tennessee Williams, Katherine Hepburn, Kirk Douglas, Jean Simmons, Burt Lancaster, Dame Maggie Smith, Sir Noel Coward, Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich. Larry is quoted as saying:

“Of all the houses I’ve lived in over the years, Notley is my favourite. It was absolutely enchanting, and it enchanted me. At Notley I had an affair with the past. For me it had mesmeric power; I could easily drown in its atmosphere. I could not leave it alone, I was a child lost in its history. Perhaps I loved it too much, if that is possible.”

About Notley Abbey

Notley Abbey is a country house wedding venue in the best English tradition — grand reception rooms, formal gardens and the kind of gravel-drive approach that sets the tone from the moment guests arrive. Couples typically use the main state rooms for the ceremony and dinner, with the grounds opening up space for portraits and evening drinks.

A country house wedding tends to reward an unhurried approach. I work in a documentary style for most of the day — capturing guests settling in, the quiet moments before the ceremony and the relaxed pace of a long reception — with a short focused portrait session somewhere that suits the house.
