Daniel and Teresa married at their local church on a warm, sunny late spring day, then had a bohemian reception at Paradise by Way of Kensal Green in north-west London. Friends and family welcomed them there with rapturous applause and a couple of glasses of champagne.
The ceremony and the drive to Paradise
The ceremony was at Daniel and Teresa’s local church. Afterwards, rather than going straight to the reception, they stopped at a couple of their favourite spots for a few photographs as a newly married couple. Then they were chauffeur driven on to Paradise.
Paradise by Way of Kensal Green
The name comes from a line in G.K. Chesterton’s poem “The Rolling English Road”. Inside, the decor is eclectic and every room is styled differently. There’s shabby chic furniture, distressed window shutters, and candlelight mixed in with the lamps and room lighting.
For photographs that’s a lot to work with. Each room gives you a different backdrop, and it was great fun using the different spaces around the building.
The food
Paradise takes pride in its food. I had the same meal as the guests, so I can say first-hand that it was spectacular. If you love good food and wine in an intimate setting, it’s worth a look.

Planning a Paradise by Way of Kensal Green wedding
- Go for it if you want something different. It suits a relaxed, bohemian wedding more than a traditional hotel day.
- Use the rooms. Every room is styled differently, so plan a little time to move around the building for portraits.
- Stop on the way. If the church and reception are apart, a couple of stops at places that mean something to you are an easy way to get portraits in.
- Getting there. It’s about a mile from Notting Hill, with good public transport links into central London.
- Check numbers with the venue. It’s an intimate setting, so confirm what your guest list works out to in the room you want.
