Rachel and Mike’s wedding at St Anne’s Church, Lewes and Powdermills Hotel

Feb 1, 2009 | Wedding photographer Sussex

Yesterday I (Bev) photographed the wedding of Rachel and Mike. It was a freezing cold day but the sun was shining and everyone had a great time! As many of the guests were members of the Glyndeboune Opera chorus the singing in the church was like nothing I have ever heard before – it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end! The Powdermills Hotel is a great venue for a wedding reception and Rachel and Mike braved the cold to get some stunning portrait images around the ground. I would like to thank my friend Catherine Jolley for her help on the day.

About St Anne’s Church, Lewes and Powdermills Hotel

St Anne’s Church, Lewes and Powdermills Hotel is a traditional parish church wedding venue with the quiet formality that comes with a church ceremony. The stone interior, stained-glass windows and peal of bells set the tone before guests move on to the reception nearby.

Shooting inside a parish church calls for a quiet approach — long lenses, minimal movement and respect for the ceremony. The available light is usually soft and the stone and stained glass do a lot of work for you. I rarely use flash inside a church; the natural light gives a much more authentic record of the service.
