A Goodwood House wedding by someone who knows it best
There’s always something special about returning to Goodwood House for a wedding — and when the bride actually works there, you know every single detail is going to be thought through to perfection. That was exactly the case with Ellie and Geoff’s stunning autumn wedding at this iconic West Sussex venue.
Ellie knows Goodwood inside out, and it showed. From the flow of the day to the tiniest decorative touch, nothing had been left to chance. The result was one of the most beautifully styled, relaxed, and genuinely joyful weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing as a Goodwood House wedding photographer.
The weather gods smile on an autumn wedding
Just a couple of days before the wedding, the forecast was grim — wet, cold, and very much not ideal for any outdoor photography. But as so often happens in West Sussex, the sky pulled through. Ellie and Geoff were treated to blue skies, warm sunshine and that gorgeous, low autumn light that photographers dream about. A perfect day.
The ceremony: vows in the Yellow Drawing Room
Ellie walked down the aisle alongside her father into the Yellow Drawing Room — one of the most elegant ceremony spaces in the country. She looked absolutely fabulous in her Mori Lee wedding gown, and the look on Geoff’s face when he first saw her is one of those moments I’ll never tire of capturing. Emotional, overwhelmed, completely smitten.
As they made their vows in front of their closest friends and family, both were giggling with nerves — the kind of unguarded, human moment that makes a wedding ceremony feel real. By the time they were pronounced husband and wife, the whole room was beaming.
Champagne cocktails and couple portraits in the Goodwood grounds
After the ceremony, the reception spilled out into the grounds. Children ran around on the lawns, the grown-ups sipped champagne cocktails, and the mood was exactly what a wedding drinks reception should feel like — warm, easy, everyone laughing.
Ellie had been a fan of my work for a while — she’d seen the photography from a friend’s wedding I’d shot at Goodwood and wanted a similar shot for her own album. So while the guests mingled, we sneaked the newlyweds away for a few quiet moments on their own. These “ten minutes away from the crowd” portraits are always among my favourite images from any wedding day, and Goodwood gives you endless places to create them.
Portraits on the Goodwood Festival of Speed start line
For something a little different, we took a short drive in a classic S Type Jaguar down to the area where the start line of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is set up each summer. It’s one of the most photogenic spots on the estate — a long tree-lined avenue that frames a couple beautifully — and from there you get that stunning view back across the field of grazing sheep to Goodwood House itself.
The combination of the Jag, the autumn colours, and the sweeping Sussex landscape gave us images that felt timeless and editorial, and completely unique to this venue.

Back at the house, Ellie and Geoff rejoined their guests before making their way through to the ballroom for the wedding breakfast. The Goodwood Catering team produced a beautiful meal — the food at Goodwood never disappoints — and the room itself is a showstopper for wide shots and candids.
Speeches, a Spurs surprise… and a letter from Pochettino
Then it was time for the speeches — and they were a brilliant mix of touching, heartfelt and genuinely hilarious. The father of the bride set the tone, the groom followed, and the best man landed all the punchlines.
But the highlight for Geoff, a die-hard Spurs fan, was a very special surprise: a framed letter from Mauricio Pochettino congratulating Geoff on his marriage to Ellie, with a few wise words for their future together as husband and wife. You could see exactly how much it meant to him — I think Geoff was nearly as pleased with that letter as he was with marrying Ellie. Nearly.
Cake cutting, first dance and a dance floor riot
After the cake cutting, Ellie and Geoff headed straight into their first dance — and from that moment on, the dance floor was a riot of colour, laughter, and brilliantly unpredictable shapes being thrown by guests of every age. It was clear they were set to party long into the night, and the energy in the room was something else.
