Two Temple Place was built in 1895 as William Waldorf Astor's London estate office, and it looks nothing like an office.

John Loughborough Pearson designed it, and the inside is full of carved wood, carved staircases and stained glass. It's owned by the Bulldog Trust, a charity, and hosts weddings from May to December. Hire is exclusive, so the house is yours for the day.

Dark wood, stained glass and low light

To be straight with you, I haven't photographed a wedding at Two Temple Place yet.

I have photographed weddings a few minutes away, at Inner Temple and the Royal Courts of Justice. Same corner of London, same Gothic detail, same dark panelled rooms where the light needs some thought. I know the Embankment and the Temple well.

On the day I work quietly and mostly with the light that's there. I'll talk to the events team before your wedding, so nothing is being worked out on the day.

The spaces

The rooms at Two Temple Place

Three rooms are licensed for ceremonies. For the registrar, you book through Westminster Council.

120 seated · 150 standing

The Great Hall

The main room upstairs, with a hammerbeam roof and stained glass windows. It works for the ceremony or the wedding breakfast.

30 seated · 50 standing

The Library

Lord Astor's former private library. Small and warm, and good for a smaller ceremony or a quiet moment away from everyone.

120 seated · 150 standing

The Lower Gallery

The same size as the Great Hall, so it works for the ceremony, drinks or dinner.
