A Georgian country house in 100 acres, about forty-five minutes from London. The whole place is yours for 24 hours.
Hedsor House is a Georgian country house in 100 acres of private grounds in Buckinghamshire.
You get the whole place to yourselves for 24 hours. That's the reason to book it, and it matters more than the building does.
Exclusive use changes the pictures
No other wedding in the next room, no hotel guests in the corridors, and nobody asking you to leave a space by four.
It means the day runs at your pace. If everyone's enjoying the drinks reception it can run long without a knock-on problem, and I can work anywhere in the building without strangers in the background.
I work unposed, mostly. I stay out of the way and photograph what happens rather than arranging it. Family groups get done quickly because nobody enjoys them, and for portraits I give you somewhere to walk rather than putting you into shapes.

Everything is in one place, so nobody needs a car between the ceremony and the dance floor.
The staircase and gallery
Height, a sweeping curve and light coming down. It's the entrance shot, and worth ten minutes on its own.
The wedding breakfast
The Ballroom has high ceilings and proper windows, so a daytime ceremony or reception in there gets real natural light. Most country house ballrooms don't.
The Sunken Garden and parkland
The Sunken Garden is sheltered and green. Good for a ceremony, better for drinks, and everyone fits for family groups. Beyond it, a hundred acres of old trees and long views.
Make the 24 hours count. Get ready in the house rather than a hotel down the road, and have breakfast together the morning after. Morning-after photographs, with everyone relaxed and the pressure off, are often the loosest and best of the whole set.
The small things, photographed properly
Shoes, rings, flowers, the dress. With the whole house to yourselves there's no rush and plenty of window light, so the details get done properly while you get ready.

Uchenna and Ade, a Nigerian celebration
One of my favourite weddings at Hedsor. Their pastor took the ceremony, then the day filled with drums and even a saxophonist. In the evening they changed into traditional outfits for the drumming and dancing.
Deep reds and golds against pale Georgian stone is a combination you don't often get to photograph, and the house takes it well rather than fighting it. If your day has a traditional ceremony or an outfit change, send me the running order early.

Where to take portraits at Hedsor
Exclusive use means you can actually slip away for ten minutes. A short walk into the park, just the two of you, usually produces the pictures people end up printing.
- The front stepsHeight, symmetry and the house behind you. Ten minutes there covers your arrival, your exit and a set of family groups.
- The staircaseThe curve and the light coming down it, with the wrought-iron balustrade in front.
- The Sunken GardenContained and sheltered, so it works on a breezy day and everyone fits for groups.
- Out in the parkOld trees and long views over Buckinghamshire. This is where the portraits should happen.
How a Hedsor wedding usually runs
Every wedding is different, but most days here follow a similar shape. This is roughly how it goes from where I'm standing.
Morning, in the house
Getting ready in the house itself, a few minutes from the ceremony. Quiet, unhurried and full of window light.
A later ceremony
A late-afternoon ceremony puts the drinks reception into the good light rather than the flat midday stuff. It's the easiest change to make.
Drinks and portraits
The Sunken Garden, then the front steps for groups and a walk into the park for the two of you.
Dinner and the evening
Speeches on a longer lens, then the dance floor. With the house yours until the next day, nobody has to rush for a taxi.

How much does a Hedsor House wedding photographer cost?
My collections are £1,350 for five hours, £1,800 for eight and £2,200 for eleven, with every image edited and your gallery within a week. A second photographer is an optional £1,250.
When will we get our photos?
Within a week of the wedding, in a private online gallery with high-resolution downloads and no watermarks.
