A Spring Wedding at Goodwood House | Fizz & Andrew (and Nelson the Dog!)
A beautiful spring day at Goodwood House
There are few better ways to kick off the wedding season than a warm, sunny spring wedding at Goodwood House, and Fizz and Andrew’s day was exactly that. Bright skies, blossom on the trees, champagne in the grounds, and one very happy Labrador making an appearance at the reception — the ingredients for a truly lovely day.
As a Goodwood House wedding photographer, I always love shooting here, and spring might just be my favourite season on the estate. The light is soft, the gardens are starting to come alive, and everything feels full of optimism — which is exactly the mood Fizz and Andrew’s wedding had from start to finish.
Getting ready at the Goodwood Hotel
Both Fizz and Andrew chose to get ready at the Goodwood Hotel, which is just a short drive from the House itself. It’s a fantastic prep location for any Goodwood wedding — relaxed, spacious, and full of character — and it meant the morning felt unhurried rather than frantic. Plenty of time for hair and makeup, a few glasses of something cold, and those lovely candid bridal-prep moments with family and bridesmaids.
Arriving at Goodwood House in a classic Jaguar
Fizz made her entrance at Goodwood House in a beautiful classic Jaguar, provided by Vanilla Classics of West Sussex— one of the best classic wedding car suppliers in the area. There’s something wonderfully timeless about a bride stepping out of a vintage Jag, and the car made for some gorgeous photographs against the backdrop of the House.
If you’re planning a wedding at Goodwood and weighing up transport options, a classic car really does pay off in your album — it gives you an immediate sense of occasion and photographs beautifully against the Regency architecture.
The ceremony: laughter, tears and the Yellow Drawing Room
Fizz and Andrew said their vows in the iconic Yellow Drawing Room at Goodwood House — one of the most elegant ceremony spaces in the South of England. The ceremony was full of emotion: laughter in all the right places, a few happy tears, and that unmistakable sense of two people who are genuinely over the moon to be marrying each other.
Those mixed emotions — joy, nerves, laughter and tears all wrapped up together — are what I love most about photographing ceremonies. Every glance between the couple and every reaction from a parent or best friend tells part of the story.
A warm spring champagne reception in the Goodwood grounds
Once the ceremony was over, guests poured out into the grounds for a champagne reception in the sunshine. It was one of those warm spring days that feels like a little gift — a lucky bonus after a long winter, and perfect for outdoor drinks.
The formal gardens and lawns at Goodwood House come into their own at this time of year, and with the sun on everyone’s faces, you could feel the day settle into that happy, easy rhythm that the best weddings always have.
Nelson the dog steals the show
Fizz and Andrew’s dog, Nelson, is a huge part of their life, so of course he was going to feature on the big day. He joined the party after the ceremony and was, predictably, an absolute hit with the guests. Wagging tail, happy face, very pleased to finally see his humans married at last — and just as delighted with all the attention from everyone who stopped for a cuddle.
Dogs at weddings are always a joy to photograph. They don’t pose, they don’t worry about angles, they just are — and the resulting photos are some of the most natural and charming you’ll ever get from a wedding day.
If you’re thinking of including your dog in your own wedding, I’d absolutely encourage it. A couple of tips from experience:
- Assign someone you trust to be the “dog wrangler” for the day
- Bring water, a familiar toy, and plenty of treats
- Build dog photos into the schedule right after the ceremony, while the mood is still calm
- Check the venue’s pet policy in advance — Goodwood is dog-friendly in the right areas

Why Goodwood House is perfect for a spring wedding
If you’re considering a spring wedding in West Sussex, Goodwood House is hard to beat. The estate sits in 12,000 acres of beautiful countryside, the architecture is iconic, and the state rooms — including the Yellow Drawing Roomand the Ballroom — look incredible in soft spring light.
A few reasons spring works particularly well here:
- Softer, more flattering light in the ceremony rooms
- Gardens just coming into bloom for your outdoor reception
- Cooler, fresher temperatures for wedding portraits
- Often better weather than you’d expect on the South Coast
- Availability tends to be easier than peak summer dates
