A relaxed, sun-soaked West Sussex wedding
Some weddings feel less like a formal event and more like the best garden party you’ve ever been invited to — and that’s exactly the atmosphere Nicola and Dan created for their summer wedding in Chichester. With blue skies overhead, champagne on the lawn and laughter drifting across the gardens, their day was a beautiful celebration of family, friends and genuinely having fun together.
As a Chichester wedding photographer, days like this are a real privilege to document. From the outdoor ceremony under the sun, to the kids tumbling off the bouncy castle, to the quiet golden-hour portraits between the flowerbeds — there was a story in every corner of the venue, and I loved capturing it all.
An outdoor ceremony in the Chichester sunshine
Nicola and Dan chose to say their vows outside, surrounded by their closest family and friends, with the West Sussex countryside as a backdrop. There’s something wonderfully honest about an outdoor ceremony — no fixed angles, no harsh venue lighting, just natural light and real emotion.
The readings were heartfelt, the vows were personal, and when the couple kissed for the first time as husband and wife, the applause rolled across the garden. It was one of those moments every wedding photographer lives for.
A true summer garden party reception
After the ceremony, guests spilled out onto the lawn for drinks, canapés and long, sunny conversations. Picnic benches were dotted around the grounds — a lovely relaxed touch that encouraged everyone to mingle — and the gardens themselves were so beautiful that guests wandered off to explore in every direction.
The real star of the reception, though, was the bouncy castle for the kids (and, let’s be honest, a fair few of the grown-ups too). If you want natural, joyful, documentary-style wedding photos, very little beats children bouncing around in their wedding outfits while their parents laugh from the sidelines. It’s exactly the sort of detail that makes a wedding feel like your wedding, not a generic package.
Nicola’s bridal look: dress, flowers and styling
Nicola looked absolutely stunning. She chose her wedding dress from The Bridal Rooms in Havant — a gorgeous boutique I’d happily recommend to any bride-to-be in Hampshire or West Sussex. The fit was perfect for the relaxed garden feel of the day, elegant without ever feeling fussy.
Her bouquet came from Forge Flowers in Chichester, and it was a real showstopper — soft, seasonal, full of texture, and beautifully tied to the summer palette of the day. The bridesmaids’ flowers tied the whole look together, and the florals scattered across the tables gave every wide shot that extra bit of magic.

Chichester is one of my favourite places in the country to shoot a wedding. You have the historic city, the rolling South Downs, the coastline at West Wittering and a huge range of beautiful venues — from country estates to barns, private gardens, hotels and marquees. Whatever style of day you’re planning, the light and the landscape give you so much to work with.
