The Gherkin, 30 St Mary Axe is such a cool wedding venue and one of the icons of the city of London’s skyline that it needs little introduction. I photographed one of the very first weddings at the Gherkin and can’t believe that it opened its doors as a wedding venue in 2008, how time flies!

The Gherkin at Searcys has a fabulous half-moon-shaped ceremony room with views across the west end of London, there is nowhere else in the city that can rival this view for a unique and glamorous wedding ceremony.
Bride and groom portraits are a joy to take in The Gherkin itself and also on the nearby streets and Leadenhall Market as there are just so many different locations and backdrops to choose from in this part of London.
Searcys now manage the venue for weddings and events at The Gherkin and you can be sure to have a great choice of wines and amazing food for your wedding day. With the drinks reception and dancing held on the very top floor of The Gherkin, you can dance into the night with the setting sun throwing long shadows across London with St Pauls and Tower Bridge both nearby it’s a magical way to spend the evening with your friends and family.
History of The Gherkin
The Gherkin was designed by Ken Shuttleworth and completed in 2003. It was built to replace the Baltic Exchange, which had been badly damaged in a bomb attack in 1992. It stands 180 metres tall with 40 floors of office space and is one of London’s most distinctive landmarks. The building has been nominated for several awards over the years, including the RIBA Stirling prize in 2004, and has become an iconic part of London’s skyline
The Gherkin was sold to German property company IVG Immobilien AG in 2007 and since then it has been leased out for conferences, weddings and other events by Searcys, the renowned catering group. It has become one of the most popular venues for couples getting married in London, who want a unique and glamorous setting for their special day
