A Victorian building that’s been a Whitehall hotel since 1885, two minutes from Embankment. I’ve shot enough weddings here — particularly Persian and Asian weddings — to know it properly.

The Corinthia sits at 10 Whitehall Place, SW1A 2BD — the corner of Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall Place. Two minutes’ walk from Embankment, five from Trafalgar Square, eight from Westminster Bridge.
The building dates to 1885 and was built as the Metropole Hotel — Victorian grandeur, original detailing intact. It served as a Government building, including the Ministry of Defence in the Second World War, for fifty years before reopening as the Corinthia in 2011 after a full refurbishment. The result is unusually good: restored Victorian architecture with contemporary luxury layered cleanly on top.
Why it photographs well
The Lobby Lounge. The central atrium with its crystal chandelier is one of the most distinctive interior spaces in any London hotel — domed glass roof, marble floor, sweeping staircase. Brilliant for arrival shots and the kind of indoor portrait you’d otherwise have to leave the building to find.
The Ballroom ceiling. Original Italian frescoes, restored properly during the 2011 refurbishment. Few London hotel ballrooms have anything like that overhead. More on how I photograph rooms like this is on my luxury wedding photography page.
The location. Two minutes to Embankment Gardens, the Thames and the Strand; five to Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the South Bank. That gives portrait variety most central London hotels can’t match.
The light. High ceilings and tall sash windows mean most event spaces have proper daylight through the morning — better for ceremony photography than the typical artificially-lit ballroom.
Quiet, observational, light-touch
My approach is consistent across venues — I’m not the photographer barking instructions across the Lobby or stopping the day for a forty-minute group-shot list. I cover the day as it actually happens, pull the two of you away for fifteen or twenty minutes of portraits when the light is right, and the rest of the time you’ll forget I’m there.
For Corinthia weddings that usually means: prep coverage in one of the suites upstairs (the Penthouses on the top floor are best for natural light), ceremony coverage in the Ballroom or Garden Lounge with two cameras, drinks reception in the Lobby Lounge or Crystal Moon Lounge, twenty minutes of portraits along Whitehall Place or down at the river at golden hour, then back into the Ballroom for the breakfast and dancing. Group shots are kept tight — send me a list of family combinations beforehand and we’ll knock them out in twenty minutes flat.
Persian, Asian and beyond
The Corinthia is one of London’s stronger venues for multi-cultural weddings. The Ballroom is large enough for processions and big extended-family ceremonies, the Lobby Lounge handles a baraat or traditional arrival as well as anywhere in central London, and the kitchens cover halal, kosher, Indian and Persian menus to a high standard.
I’ve shot a fair number of Persian and Sangeet weddings here, and the building’s combination of grand-scale spaces and subdued contemporary palette tends to work well alongside vibrant traditional dress and decor — the venue stays out of the way of the colour rather than competing with it.

Where’s the best light for bridal prep?
The Penthouse suites on the top floor have huge windows facing Whitehall and the river — the best natural light in the building through the morning. Worth requesting one if you can.
Does ceremony timing matter?
The Ballroom has tall windows on the east side, so morning and early-afternoon ceremonies catch the best light. Late-afternoon ceremonies work too but depend more on the room’s lighting design.
What about getting there and parking?
Most guests arrive by car or taxi to the front entrance on Whitehall Place. Embankment is two minutes away, Charing Cross five. There’s no on-site parking but the hotel will sort drop-offs.

Your full edited gallery within 24 hours for a smaller wedding (a week for a full day), with high-resolution downloads and no watermarks.
