A wedding at the barns at Wasing Park in Berkshire. Wasing is a country estate near Aldermaston, and between its barns, the Garden Room and a tiny church a short walk away, it gives a couple several different settings in one day.
The barns
This was a fantastic wedding, held at the barns. At another Wasing Park wedding, Louise and Max had their wedding breakfast in the Castle Barn, with the speeches and a party band afterwards.
Barns photograph well. The wood is warm, the spaces are open, and there’s room to move around without being in anyone’s way.
The Garden Room and St Nicholas
Louise and Max had their civil ceremony in the Garden Room, then a religious blessing in the tiny Church of St Nicholas, just a short walk from the venue. The church was used for group photographs with family and friends, and for portraits of the two of them, before everyone went into the Castle Barn.
It rained all day, and nobody seemed to mind. Louise and Max live in Hong Kong, so an English downpour was quite a change, but their family and friends made it a warm, fun day from start to finish.
Planning a Wasing Park wedding
- Use the church. If you’re having a blessing at St Nicholas, it’s a pretty spot for the family groups before you go back to the barns.
- Keep the groups quick. Nobody enjoys standing in a line, and it shows on their faces if it drags on.
- Don’t fear the rain. Louise and Max had rain all day and still had a brilliant wedding. Having the church, the Garden Room and the barns close together helps on a wet day.
- Plan the evening. Louise and Max had a party band, a photo booth and a sweet table in the evening, so think about how the barn is laid out after dinner.
