David and Sarah had a small, intimate wedding at The Dorchester on Park Lane. After the ceremony there were drinks out on the terrace in the good weather, a look around the hotel, a meal, and then the evening guests arrived in time for the speeches. It was an emotional day, especially for Sarah’s father, who was rightly proud.
The ceremony
Sarah wore Pronovias. The ceremony itself was small and intimate. The Dorchester opened in 1931 and faces straight onto Hyde Park, so even a small wedding here has one of the best outlooks in London.
Drinks on the terrace
The weather was on their side, so the drinks after the ceremony were out on the terrace.
Exploring the hotel, and Liberace’s piano
There was time to explore the hotel with Lavinia from The Dorchester, who was incredibly helpful. She wouldn’t allow a photograph of Sarah on Liberace’s piano, though. Apparently only Lady Gaga has been allowed to do that. It was worth asking.
Dinner and speeches
An amazing meal followed. Then the evening guests arrived, just in time for some very funny speeches.

Planning a wedding at The Dorchester
- Book a tasting. Arrange a meeting and a menu tasting with the wedding team early on.
- Use the park. The front of the hotel faces Hyde Park, three minutes’ walk away, so there’s a green portrait location right on the doorstep.
- Think about the Penthouse and Harlequin Suites. On the top floors, with Hyde Park views and big windows, they’re some of the best bridal-prep rooms in London.
- Plan the arrival. The drive-around at the front of the hotel makes a good arrival photograph.
- Ask before you assume. Some things in the hotel are off limits for photographs. Check with the events team what you can use.
