How to choose a luxury wedding photographer in London
What should separate a luxury booking from a mid-range one, and how to check whether a photographer actually delivers it before you sign anything.
"Luxury" gets attached to a lot of wedding photography pricing that doesn't earn it.

What luxury should actually buy you
Not just a higher number on the invoice.
At the top end you are paying for a photographer who has already stood in the rooms you are marrying in. Who knows which corner of the Palm Court at The Ritz catches the light at four o'clock, how the events team at Claridge's likes things run, or where the Mandarin Oriental's ballroom goes flat under artificial light after sunset. That familiarity is the actual product. Everything else, the album, the second photographer, the film, sits on top of it.
Ten things that separate luxury wedding photography
Use this on any photographer you are considering, including me.
A portfolio at the calibre of venue
Not a couple of standout shots. Full galleries, shot at venues comparable to yours, in comparable light. Anyone can look good at a sun-drenched barn. A five-star ballroom with mixed tungsten and window light is the harder test.
Editorial and documentary in one person
Directed portraits for fifteen or twenty minutes, then out of the way for the rest of the day. That combination is harder to deliver than either style on its own, and it separates a real editorial background from an editorial preset.
A straight answer on a second photographer
For anything over about 80 guests, or a day with preparations in two places, a second photographer is worth having. What matters is knowing upfront whether it is included and what it costs. Mine is an optional £1,250.
Comfort inside a five-star hotel's rules
Grand London venues have events teams, timings and house rules that shift from wedding to wedding. A photographer who has worked Claridge's, The Ritz, The Landmark or the Mandarin Oriental repeatedly will not need managing on the day.
A gallery on a stated timeline
"We'll be in touch" is not a delivery promise. A luxury photographer should tell you in writing when your gallery arrives, and then do it. Mine is 24 hours for a smaller wedding and one week for a full wedding day.
Proper backup kit and insurance
Two camera bodies, shooting to dual cards, and both public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Ask directly. Anyone hesitant to answer is not set up for a day this important.
Full galleries, not a highlight reel
Instagram shows the best six seconds of a wedding. Ask to see complete galleries: the ceremony in low light, the speeches, the parts of the day that are not naturally flattering. That is where the skill shows.
A pre-wedding shoot offered, not squeezed in
Most couples feel awkward in front of a camera before they have done it once. A proper pre-wedding shoot in London should be part of the conversation from the start.
Pricing you can see before you enquire
Transparent pricing is rarer than it should be at this end of the market. You should see what a full day, an album and a second photographer cost before a single phone call. Here is what mine looks like.

Press features, professional accreditations and reviews you can check yourself, not just claims on a website. Ask for the actual links.

Documentary for most of the day. I don't move your guests around or stop things to fix the light. The one part I direct is the portraits: fifteen or twenty minutes at a time that suits you, and you're back with your guests before anyone notices you'd gone.

How much does a luxury wedding photographer in London cost?
It varies a lot, and full-day coverage from established London photographers regularly runs well past £3,000. My own collections are £1,350 for five hours, £1,800 for eight and £2,200 for eleven, with every image edited and the gallery delivered within a week, or within 24 hours for smaller weddings. A second photographer is an optional £1,250.
How far in advance should I book?
Twelve to eighteen months is typical, and popular Saturday dates can go up to two years ahead. If you are planning for 2027 or later, now is a sensible time to start enquiring.
Do I need a second photographer?
For a wedding under about 80 guests at a single venue, one experienced photographer is usually enough. Larger weddings, split preparation locations, or a reception running well into the night benefit from a second photographer.
What should be included in the price?
Full-day coverage, every image edited, a stated gallery delivery date, and clarity upfront on whether an album, a second photographer or a wedding film are included or optional. Ask what is included before comparing prices: two quotes at the same number can mean very different things.
How can I verify a photographer's credentials?
Ask to see complete galleries from a venue similar to yours, ask for direct links to any press features or accreditations they mention, and read Google reviews that describe specifics rather than generic praise.
