This wedding was at the Park Lane Hotel on Piccadilly, an Art Deco hotel that opened in 1927 and looks across the road to Green Park. After the ceremony we went out for portraits on foot, then came back for drinks and a reception in the ballroom.
Green Park and the palace
From the hotel we walked into Green Park, past The Ritz and down to Buckingham Palace. Quite a few tourists stopped to take pictures of the two of them on the way. It’s about ten minutes on foot, and it gives you London without needing a car.
Green Park is a Royal Park, so a wedding party in bridal wear needs a photography permit. Worth sorting out before the day.
Back to the hotel
The guests had drinks in the Smith & Whistle, the hotel’s 1920s-style bar, then went through to the Art Deco ballroom for the reception. The ballroom has its own entrance, so it feels like a private venue rather than a room in a hotel.
The hotel had just finished a big renovation when I photographed here. They kept the original 1920s detail, which is what makes the ballroom worth photographing.
