With couples already booking their weddings in 2023 and 2024, it’s time to get up-to-date with wedding photography styles for those looking ahead.
A wedding is one of the most important moments in a couple’s life. You will be delighted to look back on your wedding photos and relive all those beautiful moments many years later.
But before you decide on your wedding photographer, let’s look at the different styles of wedding photography available to you in 2023
Now, how do you choose between all the different styles? Well, our guide to the wedding photography styles every couple should know in 2023 is the best place to start!
Classical wedding photography
Traditional wedding photography never goes out of style, all the latest trends and funky photoshop are cool right now. But a traditional wedding photographer will plan all of your photos and discuss with you the timings of the day and how they can best work with you to get a pre-planned set of photos that will be structured for the outset to sit in particular places in your wedding album.

Documentary Wedding Photography
At the opposite end of the scale to a classical wedding photographer, documentary wedding photography is far more relaxed and informal. The wedding photographers capture the day as it unfolds and tells the story of your day in a connected series of photos in a photojournalistic way. Often not speaking or interacting with the bride and groom or their guests. This fly-on-the-wall style of photography is all about capturing those fleeting moments as they happen throughout the wedding day. The father of the bride lifting her veil the tears and laughter of a best man’s speech all of these moments are captured forever with a reportage style of photography.

Artistic or Creative wedding photography
Some of the very best truly artistic wedding photographers in the world create dream-like images that look like they have come from the pages of a glossy magazine not taken on a wedding day! Creating these sorts of photos on a wedding day is a real art and the best creative wedding photographers are in demand all year round.
The ability for the photographer to see an opportunity to create a wonderful moment without any preplanning and just working with the venue and the light as it changes throughout the wedding day to make some amazing photos is an art unto itself. Often using simple handheld flash or continuous lights to balance the light in the location or venue to create drama and art in-camera with the minimal need of post-production.
We are rated as one of the top 10 creative wedding photographers in the world and have been fortunate to photograph weddings in New York, Paris, Lisbon, Venice, and many other wonderful locations.
Film Wedding Photography
In a digital world, there is something calming and wonderful about the look and feel of a wedding shot on medium format film cameras. If the latest filtered images on Instagram and photoshop are not your thing, and you hark back to a simpler era of vinyl records and cassette tapes then a film photographer might be more your thing for your wedding photos. With pastel-like colours and delicate grain, subtle shades of light and dark film has a unique look all of it’s own.
A photographer using film is going to work slower as they have to wind on the film and reload the cassette every 12 shots, along with the expense of the film and processing you are not going to get 500 photos or more like you would from a photographer shooting on the latest hi-speed digital cameras, but the ones you do get will be worth every penny.

Vintage wedding photography
Popular with hipster weddings the retro style of vintage wedding photography was a huge hit over the last couple of years. Couples love the feeling of nostalgia, evoked by the vintage style. Common among the couples who hold their wedding ceremonies in a rustic style, it’s not surprising that vintage wedding photography is going to stay with us in 2022. With crushed blacks and a slight brown tone often found on these types of photos the bride and groom of today seem to like the vintage look to the finished edited images.

What are the different wedding photography styles?
Wedding Photography Styles
When researching wedding photography you will undoubtedly have read about wedding reportage, photojournalism, candid, fashion and traditional all relating to wedding photography style. So which of these are we? The honest answer is we are all of them. Your wedding photographs will contain a mixture of all of these styles, which we believe are essential to give you a complete record of your day.
A Brief Overview of the Different Styles:
Reportage or Photojournalism – Capturing the emotion and natural flow of your day. Photos were taken as it happens in an unobtrusive manner that records every moment without interfering with proceedings.
Candid – This is a modern style of photography that captures real expressions, often taken in natural and unposed situations.
Fashion – More glamour orientated. Quality portraits are created to bring out the best in you both on your wedding day.
Traditional – Capturing all the family group photographs as well as posed images of the bride and groom.

We believe that the best wedding images are those taken from all of these styles, as each brings something different to your day. We will take a fresh approach to every wedding, but rest assured that we will be capturing all the important moments of your special day for you to look back on and treasure for many
My wedding photography style
My photography is creative it’s all about beauty, emotion, love, fun, glamour, scale, drama, the list could go on! We aim to provide you with unique images that are as individual as you and the day you have planned. It is about you, your venue, your surroundings, your loved ones and your emotions instead of just snapshots of your day.
Choose to have one or two photographers capture your wedding day
With just one photographer, you will get a lot of candid images of the day and a mix of traditional poses. With two photographers, there is more flexibility to capture moments as they happen in an unobtrusive way. We can also have one photographer capturing posed portraits whilst the other concentrates on candid shots or family photos. This allows for different angles, and unique perspectives in a relaxed, unobtrusive and creative way. With the mixture of reportage, candid and traditional styles plus some fashion influences to create that final polished look, we aim to capture images which will tell the story of your wedding day for many years to come. We use natural light whenever possible and combine this with professional flash lighting. You will get a mix of classic and modern wedding photography.
Whatever your style, I will strive to create memories that you can treasure forever. My passion is to capture the moments that make your day unique with a creative flare, allowing you to look back on all the emotion, beauty and fun of the day for many years to come
