The Kennels Goodwood Wedding Photographer
Small, relaxed weddings at Goodwood's Georgian clubhouse, photographed quietly by someone who has worked across the estate for well over a decade.
The Kennels was built in 1787 by James Wyatt, for the third Duke of Richmond's foxhounds. These days it's one of the nicest small wedding venues in Sussex.
It sits on the Goodwood Estate looking out over the Duchess Paddock towards Goodwood House. Where the House is grand, The Kennels is warm and informal: books, sofas, Georgian windows and a courtyard garden. It suits couples who want a small wedding that still feels special.

A small room needs a quiet photographer
At a wedding this size, everyone notices the photographer. The trick is that nobody should.
I've photographed weddings across the Goodwood estate for well over a decade, at The Kennels, Goodwood House and the Goodwood Hotel. I know where the light comes in, and where to take you for twenty minutes of portraits without a long walk.
I don't bark instructions or stop the day for a long list of group photos. Two cameras, a longer lens for the reactions, and the rest of the time you'll forget I'm there.
BarrieInside The Kennels
A handful of rooms that each work differently for photographs, all a few steps apart.

The Library
Sofas, armchairs and bookcases, lit by warm lamps. It's where drinks and canapés usually happen, and it makes a lovely backdrop for portraits when the light outside has gone.

The front and the Terrace
Flint and brick, big sash windows, and a terrace looking over the Duchess Paddock towards Goodwood House. At Goodwood, a classic car at the front door is never out of place.
The Music Room seats up to 28 for dinner under Georgian windows. The Putting Green is a canopied courtyard garden with its own bar, for drinks outside in summer. Guests usually stay at the Goodwood Hotel, a few minutes away, which is also where most couples get ready.

Chris and Gaby, a misty day at Goodwood
A very small wedding at The Kennels on a foggy day at the foot of the Downs. A friend had lent them a classic Fiat Dino, so we took it along the drive towards Goodwood House for a few atmospheric portraits, then went back to The Kennels for drinks and dinner.

Where to take portraits around The Kennels
Twenty minutes when the light is right, and you're back with your guests before they've finished a drink.
- The parklandOpen grass and big trees right on the doorstep, for relaxed walking portraits.
- The drive towards Goodwood HouseTree-lined, and at its best in mist or low evening light. A car helps here.
- The Putting GreenFlint walls and planting in the courtyard, sheltered if it's windy.
- Inside, by the windowsIf it rains, the Georgian windows in the Library and Music Room give soft, even light.
If you want something further afield, the Trundle on the South Downs is a short drive away for a big view on a clear day.

The Kennels through the seasons
A small venue in a big estate works in any month. Each season just gives the pictures a different feel.
