Sussex Wedding Photographer
Country houses, barns, the coast and the Downs. Weddings all over Sussex, photographed quietly by someone who lives here.
Sussex has country houses, old barns, seafront hotels and the South Downs, all within an hour of each other. It's a lovely county to get married in, and a lovely one to photograph.
I lived in Chichester for twenty years and I live in Eastbourne now. So I know both ends of the county, the venues in between, and how long it really takes to get from the church to the reception on a Saturday in June.

Twenty years of weddings, close to home
I know the venues, the roads between them and where the light will be when it matters.
I've photographed weddings at Goodwood, in barns outside Chichester, in the chapel at Lancing, on Brighton seafront and at the register office in Eastbourne. Knowing a place means less standing around for you and your guests, and portraits that take fifteen minutes instead of forty.
On the day I work quietly. I photograph the wedding as it happens, take the two of you away when the light is right, and keep group photos short and organised. The rest of the time you'll forget I'm there.
BarrieVenues I know well
A few of the Sussex venues I've photographed most. Each has its own page with the spaces, portrait spots and how the day usually runs.

Goodwood House
A country house in 12,000 acres of parkland north of Chichester. Ceremonies in the Yellow Drawing Room, dinner in the Ballroom, and the hillclimb for portraits.
Goodwood House →
The Kennels
Goodwood's Georgian clubhouse, built in 1787. Smaller and warmer than the House, with parkland right behind it.
The Kennels →
Southend Barns
Barns, gardens and fields on an old farm on the Selsey Road. Exclusive use, relaxed, and made for late portraits in the fields.
Southend Barns →
Selden Barns
A ceremony barn, an oak pergola and gardens under the Downs. Good for outdoor ceremonies and for days with two.
Selden Barns →
Lancing College Chapel
A huge Gothic chapel on the Downs, seating up to 300, with cloisters, a rose garden and a dining hall around it.
Lancing College →
Horsted Place
A red-brick Victorian Gothic house with a sweeping staircase, formal gardens and a croquet lawn for outdoor ceremonies.

Susie and Deshan, two ceremonies at Selden Barns
A civil ceremony in the barn at three o'clock, then a Sri Lankan Poruwa under the oak pergola, with Kandyan dancers and a drummer on the lawn. Family had flown in from the USA and Sri Lanka, so we took our time over the groups.

Both ends of the county
Most Sussex weddings I photograph fall into one of four areas. I know the venues, the churches and the good portrait spots in each.
- Chichester and West SussexGoodwood, Southend Barns, the Cathedral and the Guildhall. Chichester weddings
- Worthing and the DownsSelden Barns at Patching, Lancing College above Shoreham, and Mannings Heath near Horsham.
- Brighton and LewesThe Pavilion, the seafront hotels and the Lanes, plus Firle Place and Southover Grange. Brighton weddings
- Eastbourne and East SussexHome. Gildredge Manor, Alfriston Gardens, the register office, and Horsted Place near Uckfield. Eastbourne weddings
If your venue isn't listed, ask. There's a good chance I've been there, or somewhere just like it.

How a Sussex wedding usually runs
Every wedding is different, but most follow a rhythm. This is roughly how the day goes from where I'm standing.
Getting ready
At home, a hotel or a cottage near the venue. Natural light, the dress, the rings, and the moment someone close to you sees you ready.
The ceremony
A church, a register office, a barn or a lawn. I stay out of the aisle and work quietly from the sides, so nobody is watching me instead of you.
Drinks and portraits
Fifteen minutes for the two of you, in a field, on the Downs or on the beach. Group photos come from a list you send me beforehand and take about twenty minutes.
Dinner and the evening
Speeches from a distance on a longer lens, so the reactions are real. If there's a good sunset, I'll steal you away for ten minutes between courses.

What couples say

Sussex wedding questions
Which parts of Sussex do you cover?
All of it, East and West. I lived in Chichester for twenty years and now live in Eastbourne, so I know both ends of the county well, from Goodwood and Southend Barns in the west to Brighton, Lewes and the Downs above Eastbourne.
Which Sussex venues have you photographed?
Goodwood House and The Kennels, Southend Barns, Selden Barns, Lancing College, Horsted Place, Chichester Cathedral and the Guildhall, Brighton seafront hotels, Gildredge Manor, and the register offices in Eastbourne and Lewes, among others.
How much does a Sussex wedding photographer cost?
My Sussex collections are £1,150 for five hours, £1,550 for eight and £1,900 for eleven, with every image edited. Galleries come back within 24 hours for smaller weddings and within a week for a full day. A second photographer is an optional £1,250.
Do you photograph register office weddings?
Yes. Eastbourne register office weddings start from £225, and I also photograph ceremonies at Southover Grange in Lewes. Shorter coverage suits a small ceremony and lunch afterwards.
Can you photograph a day with two ceremonies?
Yes. Susie and Deshan had a civil ceremony and a Sri Lankan Poruwa at Selden Barns in the same afternoon. The planning is always about where, when and how much time sits between the two.
What happens if it rains?
Most Sussex venues have barns, halls or big rooms with good windows, so we move inside. If it clears for ten minutes, we pop back out for portraits.
When will we get our photos?
Within 24 hours for a smaller wedding and within a week for a full day, in a private online gallery with high-resolution downloads and no watermarks.
