Rahul and Nazrin got married at One Whitehall Place in London at the end of September 2013. It was their second wedding that week. They had married in Azerbaijan the Saturday before.
One Whitehall Place sits next to the Royal Horseguards hotel. It’s a beautiful Victorian building with one of the most magnificent staircases you’ll ever see.
Getting ready
The day started at home in Fulham with Rahul, who was getting ready with his brother and nephew, both over from America for the wedding. He was a very relaxed groom, and that set the tone.
Then over to the hotel for Nazrin’s preparations. If anything she was even more relaxed than Rahul.
Around London in a cab
Once Nazrin was dressed we all hopped into the white London cab they’d booked and went round some of the sights before the ceremony. We drew quite a crowd on Westminster Bridge.
A cab tour before the ceremony is worth doing if your venue is central. Go before the guests arrive, and pick two or three stops rather than trying to see everything.
The ceremony and supper
The ceremony was in the Gladstone Ballroom, and included one of Nazrin’s favourite poems, translated from Azeri into English by one of her friends.
After a champagne reception everyone went into the ballroom for supper. Before they sat down, Rahul and Nazrin performed their traditional Azerbaijani wedding dance. The speeches were very, very funny, especially from Rahul’s three best men, who spared him nothing.
The Jamie Bruce Band
In the evening the Jamie Bruce Band played. Jamie did well on The Voice in Tom Jones’ team, and listening to him it was easy to see why.
